Restylane and Perlane at Summit Medical Group
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid gel cosmetic dermal filler that replaces volume and restores youthful contours to the skin to smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as laugh lines, worry lines, crow’s feet and
Perlane is also a hyaluronic acid gel filler, made by the same biochemical process as Restylane, but the Perlane particles are larger and designed for deeper lines and folds. Perlane has been used safely and effectively for nearly a decade worldwide.
Hyaluronic acid is part of the connective tissue of the skin that attracts and holds water, giving the skin a plump, radiant appearance. With aging, we gradually lose the hyaluronic acid naturally present in our skin.

Frequently Asked Questions about Restylane and Perlane
What are Restylane and Perlane?
Restylane and Perlane are part of the Restylane® family of products. They are smooth, non-animal derived hyaluronic acid gels that add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
What makes Perlane different is the size of the gel particles and the depth of injection. Perlane is a more robust filler that is used for providing lift to deeper wrinkles.
This allows us to personalize the treatment to fit your unique needs.
Because they are not animal-derived, Restylane and Perlane do not contain any animal proteins, reducing the risk of allergic reaction and animal-based disease transmission. Restylane and Perlane do not require pre-injection testing for allergies.
How does Restylane work?
Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). But as we age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds - like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth.
Using a dermal filler like Restylane is a safe and effective way to replace the hyaluronic acid your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.
How long does Restylane last?
In three clinical studies of 150 patients each, on average, 70% of patients maintained improvement for six months after just one treatment.
Where can Restylane and Perlane be used?
Restylane and Perlane are primarily used in the face to correct facial wrinkles and folds, such as lines around the mouth or eyes, or to add volume to depressed areas, such as cheeks and temporal areas.
Restylane is also used to shape and add fullness to the lips and to fill in under-eye hollows and dark circles.
How long does the treatment take?
A treatment normally takes about 30 minutes, although time may vary depending upon the area being treated.
How soon will I see results?
With Restylane and Perlane, results will be seen immediately.
Are there any potential side effects?
Side effects may include slight bruising, redness or swelling at the injection site. In rare cases nodules may form under the skin.
Who should not use Restylane and Perlane?
Restylane or Perlane should not be used by people with previous bad allergies, particularly to certain microorganisms known as Gram-positive bacteria; by people with previous bad allergies to drugs that have required in-hospital treatment; by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding; or by people with bleeding disorders.
