What is Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing is a quick and comfortable laser procedure with minimal downtime, used to improve the overall appearance of your skin.  The procedure is custom tailored to your specific skin conditions and desired outcome.

How does Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

ProFractional uses a tiny laser beam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. Because only a fraction of your skin is directly treated with the laser, the surrounding untreated tissue promotes rapid healing. This skin’s wound healing response creates new collagen which add firmness and resilience to the skin.

Unlike traditional laser resurfacing, in which layers of skin are removed over the entire treated area, in fractional resurfacing, tiny microscopic spots of laser energy treat about 20% of the surface area in a typical treatment.

The tiny spots of laser energy penetrate deep enough into the skin to remove deep pigmentary problems, such as melasma, and to stimulate synthesis of new collagen, which results in smoothing of wrinkles and acne scars and shrinkage of pore size. Fractional resurfacing laser treatments are safe for all areas of the body and can even improve stretch marks.

Where can Laser Skin Resurfacing be used?

The most common areas are those that receive the most sun, such as the face, neck, chest and hands.

How long does the treatment take?

A treatment normally takes approximately 20 - 40 minutes, although time varies depending upon the area being treated.

How soon will I see results?

Dramatic results can be seen after just one treatment with continued improvement over time. Frequently four to six treatments are recommended spaced out two to four weeks apart in order to achieve optimal results.

What will I experience after the treatment?

While individual results vary, laser skin resurfacing offers the benefits of speedy healing and minimal downtime. Side effects usually include mild swelling and redness. Mild swelling should subside within two to three days, and redness usually fades over five to seven days. There is limited, if any, risk of infection or scarring.
