Before & After PhotosNeck Rejuvenation

A beautiful neck is an important part of a youthful physical appearance. A young-appearing neck has good skin texture and elasticity and well-defined jawline and angle between the chin and neck (cervicomental angle).

Signs of aging in the neck are mostly due to years of sun damage, with some contibution from weight gains or losses.

  • Discoloration, including persistent redness and brown spots
  • Sagging and wrinkling of the skin
  • Vertical and horizontal bands, due to aging changes in the broad neck muscle – the platysma
  • Loss of well-defined contour of the jawline due to formation of jowls
  • Accumulation of fat in the front and sides of the neck, obscuring the cervicomental angle.

With innovations in minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, there are now methods of improving most of these without resorting to plastic surgery.

If you're considering a rejuvenation treatment and are interested in learning how Neck Rejuvenation can help you achieve a younger-looking, more supple neck, please schedule a free consultation by calling us at Advanced Skin Wisdom:  (973) 992-0550 or click here to contact us.

What treatments can help with aging changes in the neck?

The neck has long been ignored when it comes to facial rejuvenation, even though it is one of the first areas to show the signs of aging and skin laxity. When the neck is left untreated, there is a sharp dividing line between the rejuvenated face and the aged neck. The neck and upper chest are also forgotten when applying sunscreens or using anti-aging topical treatments.

To improve and help reverse aging changes in the neck, all layers of tissue must be treated.  That includes the skin, connective tissue, fat and muscle.

BOTOX® Cosmetic to relax and smooth the vertical and horizontal neck bands.

Vertical and horizontal neck bands are formed by the large, thin platysma muscle of the neck. These bands are smoothed away by injecting tiny amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Used safely in medicine for decades, BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved therapeutic muscle-relaxing agents that target the muscles that cause wrinkles.

Photorejuvenation with Broad Band Light, a form of Intense Pulsed Light to treat the red and brown discoloration.

Because the neck and upper chest are often forgotten when applying sunscreen, over the years these areas undergo changes due to chronic sun damage.  There is even a name for this particular condition – Poikiloderma of Civatte.
These changes include:

  • Thinning of the skin, with increased tenderness and sensitivity, often making it more difficult to wear jewelry or clothing that closely hugs the neck
  • Irregular dark patches of the neck and chest skin
  • Dilated blood vessels that give the neck a chronically red appearance.

Broad Band Light (IPL) treatments can help improve all of these. This Photo Rejuvenation treatment delivers Intense Pulsed Broadband Light (IPL or BBL) energy through the skin’s surface to treat age spots, sun-induced freckles, and diffuse redness due to dilated blood vessels.

BBL treats the damaged superficial layer of the skin, while delivering thermal energy to deeper tissue. Clinical studies have shown a significant positive effect BBL energy has on collagen production, which helps firm and tighten the skin. During this process, collagen production is stimulated, rejuvenating the skin and filling in fine lines and indentations. The result is healthier, younger looking skin.

Skin Tightening with Sciton’s SkinTyte to improve skin sagging and wrinkles and folds of jowls and neck.

SkinTyteTM is a Broad Band Light device that delivers gentle pulses of heat deep into the skin, which causes some immediate tissue tightening and triggers new collagen production. As new collagen forms, it produces a tightening and firming effect that helps to strengthen the skin and make it more resilient. SkinTyteTM protects the outer layer of skin with sapphire contact cooling, which provides both safety and comfort. There is virtually no downtime, so you can resume regular activities immediately following treatment.

Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing
to improve texture and loose skin of the neck.

Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing is an excellent choice for removing sun damaged skin, including discoloration, wrinkles and fine lines. Other benefits include improvement in tone and texture, and skin tightening, without the usual downtime.
